On June 7, the new facilities of the Hospital del Mar de Barcelona were inaugurated. The event was led by the President of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau. This is the first phase of the expansion and remodelling project of the Hospital del Mar, which has materialized in a new building of 15,877 m², distributed in four floors: two in subway and two in elevation. The construction of the new building has made it possible to group the oncological services of the Hospital, since some are carried out in the Hospital de la Esperanza, as well as expanding and updating the spaces of the emergency and surgery service and some areas of obstetrics and gynaecology. With the new reform, the Hospital del Mar now has almost 4,000 m² per day for emergency rooms, with 40 new boxes for urgent care and 5 more for critical care of high complexity - such as cases of stroke and heart attack, polytrauma or chest pain -, which offer better control and follow-up of patients. The new urgencies, with an area of 2,780 m², occupy the underground floor of the new building and are connected with the previous spaces (1,820 m²), which are now dedicated to the specialties of paediatrics, psychiatry, surgery and traumatology. The new emergency departments also have two areas of triage and six offices for low complexity emergencies.

As highlighted in their respective parliaments, the President of the Consorci Parc Salut Mar, Joan Puigdollers, and Mayor Colau, DISTRICLIMA becomes one of the relevant aspects of the new assistance area, providing thermal energy (cold and heat) to the new dependencies for its air conditioning and sanitary hot water. As the Mayor emphasized in her inaugural speech "the connection to the Districlima network, as an issue to note, a heating and cooling network that has meant major savings in electricity and natural gas and a reduction in emissions of almost 70%, which is a lot."

The connection works of the Hospital were executed by DISTRICLIMA during the past year and entailed for the company an investment in a new network of more than 5 million euros, to extend the almost 2 kilometres of 4 new pipelines (impulsion and return of cold and impulsion and return of heat).
